The U.S. distributor of Smart cars says it has a tentative deal with Nissan to sell a small, five-door car built by the Japanese automaker under the Smart brand, beginning in late 2011. A bridge near Beedon in West Berkshire is going to be closed overnight later in October – but it will be closed from Friday night to Monday morning for two entire weekends in November. The recommended diversion will be fully signposted and will take motorists on a tour of the M4, A404(M), A404 and M40… the total trip time will be at least one hour, says the agency, “but that could easily increase depending on conditions,” it admitted.
NEW figures point to an average of 200 drivers arrested per day for drink driving related offences over the past Christmas period. The data, from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), show that 6,550 drivers gave positive breath tests or refused or failed to give a test out of 191,040 drivers.
